Electronic Giving Q&A

What is electronic giving?

Electronic giving is a direct payment program whereby your contribution is debited automatically from your checking or savings account or credit card.

Is electronic giving risky?

It's less risky than writing checks or bringing cash to church.  Electronic contributions cannot be lost, stolen or destroyed and have an extremely high rate of accuracy. You will always be redirected to a secure website (PCI certified.) We have been using this system since 2009,without any incidents.

What are the advantages of electronic giving?

It makes it easy to fulfil stewardship commitments. It allows you to give consistently, even when you can't attend church.  You never have to bring cash or checks to church. It helps simplify life...no trying to remember whether or not you've given this month.

How much does electronic giving cost?

It costs you nothing, but it saves the church a lot of money, as we save the cost of offertory envelopes, if you choose to stop receiving them and we are able to reduce office labor. At no cost, you are helping the church improve its budget.

How are my contributions automatically deducted?

Only after you have signed up online, the contribution amount you specify will automatically be transferred from your bank account or credit card to the church's bank account.

When will my contribution be deducted from my account?

Your electronic contribution will be debited on the date you specify when you sign up online.

If I do not write checks, how will I keep my checkbook balance straight?

Since your contribution is made at a pre-established time, you simply record it in your check register on the appropriate date.  Electronic contributions are recorded for you on your bank or credit card statement.

You can also check your giving history at any time after creating your confidential online profile available at our secure site.

What is an online profile and must I create one to donate online?

You do not have to create an online profile but it makes future gift giving easier and allows you to view your giving history, update your contact information and make changes to your donation amounts, frequency and bank or credit card account information. Your profile contains all of your enrollment information and is protected by our secure website (PCI certified). All information will be kept confidential and will not be given to or used by any other organization.

Without a cancelled check, how can I prove I made my contribution?

Your bank or credit card statement gives you an itemized list of electronic transactions.  It is your proof of contributing. IHM will also send you a record of your electronic contributions for tax purposes.
